Three dies in Edo auto crash

Now fewer than three persons on Saturday reportedly lost their lives in a motor accident by Obayator village, along the Benin‎-Warri highway in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was learnt that the accident occurred at about 8.30am when a Toyota Hiace bus with number plate, Lagos XL 617 AGL, lost control and rammed into a Toyota Sienna bus marked, Delta BUR 598 AA, from the rear, killing three of the passengers while some others sustained injuries.

‎Both vehicles were travelling toward Benin City from Warri.

However, the impact of the collision was said to have caused the vehicles to skid off the road.
An eyewitness, who noted that the Hiace bus had obituary posters of a woman, said the vehicle was apparently headed for Ekpoma, the administrative headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area of the state for a funeral.

State Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, George Otoabiokhai, told our correspondent on the telephone that the remains of the deceased had already been evacuated before they arrived at the scene.

“Our response time is 15 minutes or less. Maybe they (deceased) had already been evacuated before the FRSC was called into action,” Otoabiokhai said.

However, those injured were reportedly taken to the Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin.
