The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba has paid glowing
tributes to the founding fathers of Nigeria and called on all Nigerians
to sustain the unity of the country. IGP Abba also enjoined the
electorate to shun class, religion and ethnic divide and work for the
peace and progress of the nation.
He made the remarks when he and
the Police Management Team were decorated by the Nigerian Centenary
Lapel Pin Project at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. Chuks Chilaka,
National Coordinator of the Nigerian Centenary Lapel Pin Project hailed
IGP Abba for his sterling leadership qualities and expressed
satisfaction with the efforts made by the Police High Command to
reposition the Force for enhanced service delivery.
He also called
on all Nigerians to support the Nigeria Police Force as it works with
INEC and other stakeholders to organize a hitch-free 2015 General
Elections. Meanwhile, Abba has called on all his officers
especially the members of Inspectorate and Rank and File of the Force to
remain resolute in pursuit of their statutory duties as the management
team is bent on ensuring that they get their welfare entitlement as and
when due. He also noted that the problems confronting the Nigeria Police Force were being addressed.
He
added that they should distance themselves from any act capable of
jeopardizing Public peace or that may affect the country’s nascent
Democracy. Abba further warned that he would not condone any act of indiscipline. He
reiterated that any person or group of persons caught making inciting
statement in the Force would not only be punished internally, but would
also be made to face the wrath of law.
The IGP assured all Police
personnel that efforts were being made by the present Management Team of
the Force to address Nigeria Police challenges and improve welfare,
which included promotions, courses, issuance of uniforms among others.
