Several persons were feared killed after two suicide bombers on
Thursday attacked Terminus area of Jos, the Plateau State capital.
It
was learnt that the first bomb was detonated around 6.30 pm in front of
the popular Mr. Biggs eatery situated at the busy Terminus area of the
end of the Ahmadu Bello Way. The second one targeted at some
traders at the junction leading to Bauchi Road from Muritala Mohammed
Way, just opposite the demolished ‘Mama Tapgun’ statue near the burnt
Jos Main market, exploded few minutes later.
Eyewitness told
newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State capital that the two bombers who
carried the lethal weapons in two sacks pretended to be traders. The
state Police Public Relations Officers, Deputy Superintendent of Police
Emmanuel Abuh, confirmed the Thursday’s incident, but said that
casualty figure had yet to be ascertained at the moment.
However, witnesses were giving different accounts of the incident and the number of causalities involved.
While some say 16 persons were killed, others said 32 traders lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency was yet to release the real figure of the casualties.
