THE Senate yesterday passed a bill
establishing an Independent National Assembly Budget and Research Office
to provide non-partisan information needed to process the national
budget.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and
Business Senator Ita Enang, in his lead debate, said the bill was
processed by both chambers of the National Assembly in the Sixth
Assembly, but was not assented to.
The bill, he said, is crucial to the
work of the Appropriation and Finance Committees of both Houses as well
as other relevant committees.
He added that “the establishment of the
office would provide relevant committees with essential non-partisan
budgetary information needed to process the national budget”.
